I am new to the game of tennis, which is why I apologize if I come across as a bit ignorant about the subtleties of the game. I suppose I just wanted to bring to the forefront a common trend, which can be seen in women's tennis.
Whenever a tennis player on the defense, barely manages to get to the end of a ball from the opponent in the commanding position, the ball usually makes its way high into the air before landing somewhere within the opponent's half of the court, leaving the opponent in perfect position to attempt an overhead smash and finish things off, under most circumstances.
However, when it comes to the women's game, I have often noticed that most female players, if not all, as opposed to male players that never shy away from attempting an overhead smash, often try to wait for the ball's second bounce longer, to be able to take things forward with a forehand.
Why don't women attempt overhead smashes more often, and instead choose to rely upon a forehand?
