Looking to replace Telus provided router with my own, have some questions!
Post Body

Hi there, I am wanting to replace my Telus provided router with a new one. I currently have the Telus Wifi Hub (white can looking one) which is on my main floor and connected via ethernet port through the wall which goes into the basement and plugs into the Telus ONT (hopefully this makes sense).

In terms of Telus services I only have Telus internet and Telus home security.

I called and spoke with Telus and they informed me that in order to utilize my own router (which they apparently don't suggest) I will need to call them to request that they put the existing router on bridge mode and will have to connect the new router to the current one via ethernet port.

I'm wondering if that is the only way to connect the new router or if I can bypass the existing router all together. Would I be able to plug the new router directly into the ONT or will I have to do it the way Telus has suggested? I've read contradicting things online, some people saying that I will need to use the existing router as a modem while others have said that it only has to be done this way if I have Optik TV and since I don't I should be able to plug directly into the ONT.

Additionally, I have read some people stating that their internet speeds were throttled due to them using their own router. Has anyone actually experienced this or is it a tale?

Thanks a bunch, your help is sincerely appreciated!!!
