why can't we agree on what a great comedy is?

This is just for interest, not for starting a debate about 'you don't know what funny is'. I'm just wondering what you believe is why some people find 'x' funny but 'y' to be boring, and someone else the opposite?

Example: On another thread, someone suggests three shows you might love - Ghosts (British version), Schitts Creek, Reno 911.

I agree that Ghost is hilarious and one of my favorite watches. But Reno 911 doesn't do anything for me and Schitts - regardless of wonderful cast - is one I've tried 3 times and just can't get through any one episode.
