I've collimated my telescope (10" dob) a few times since I bought it a couple of weeks ago, I figure practice is good. Went out tonight and had a complete brain fart, or I have brain worms. I should say I'm using a laser collimator that came with the telescope.
Secondary mirror went fine. Went to do the primary mirror and undid the mirror screws instead of the locking bolts! So now the laser dot doesn't show up anywhere on the reticule in the focusing tube.
I've spent 40min fiddling with the primary mirror, and constantly adjusting collimation of the secondary, and I can't get the laser to reappear on the reticule at all!
Do I just keep fiddling and adjusting the mirror and hope it eventually aligns enough to be seen on the reticule? It's still pretty light out, so I'm hoping that when it gets dark I'll be able to see the dot at some crazy angle and work from there. Dunno. Any advice is welcome while I berate myself for my stupidity lol.
EDIT: Just an edit to say I've done a rough test and the laser seems collimated, and the previous attempts at collimation worked well and produced decent images. This is almost certainly an issue with whatever I've managed to do to the mirrors. I've now tried to tighten all the mirror adjusting screws and go from there. Still no luck in finding the dot on the reticule/bulleye.
