Job Site: Stackoverflow Careers
Post Body

Stackoverflow careers is one of the best places to find long term employment that may allow you to work remotely at least part time. You can specifically filter out jobs that “allows remote” work. The quality of companies posting to Stackoverflow is pretty good. I would say it’s about on the same level as Dice or Monster.

Compared to sites that offer strict remote working jobs such as WeWorkRemotely, I’ve found that sometimes the companies aren’t necessarily willing to let you work from home every day of the week. When I did manage to land job offers, it came with a final request that I visit on site at least a couple days a month. This usually is a reasonable request, but it may be a deal breaker for some people.

Stackoverflow is one of those job sites that encourages you to submit your resume through their site instead of just providing you an email to which you can contact the company. They also would like you to have a profile created, which requires you to have a bit of reputation established already on Stackoverflow. I think the quality of jobs posted in the careers section makes it worth spending a few days asking or answering questions on stackoverflow to gain reputation. One tip to build reputation quickly would be to ask questions early on in the workday to maximize the number of people who will view and answer your question while they’re at work. Obviously, don’t make too stupid of questions because maybe a future employer might see them haha.

Pros

  • Quality jobs compared to contract work or outsourcing websites
  • Quite a few new jobs everyday
  • Jobs cover wide range of tech skills

Cons

  • Not every job is comfortable letting someone work remotely 100% of the time
  • Gotta have stackoverflow reputation already
