Hello fellow TEFL teachers. I live in the S.F. Bay Area, California and am certified in 120 hours of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and Teaching English as a Second or Other Language (TESOL) which I attained in 2014. I have yet to acquire an official teaching job since then, but in order to not get rusty and hone my skills, I have accumulated roughly 2,000 hrs of tutoring foreign exchange students (in the span of the last 5 years) for free in the S.F. Bay Area, California. For what it's worth, I also have my B.A. in Communication which I attained in 2013.

Living in the S.F. Bay Area is outrageously expensive (the most expensive home market in the United States) and I am looking for a change of pace. I got into TEFL for the experience of being able to travel and see other countries, and the gratification of helping people learn the most commonly used language for business and commerce in the world (thus increasing opportunities in their lives). Money is only a byproduct.

That being said, and given my circumstances, I still want the opportunity to finally travel abroad to teach, even if I don't get paid. I was wondering if anyone knows of any countries/agencies/programs that are known to recruit English Teachers to teach underprivileged students in their countries, and how I can get in touch with them. My only rut is that paying for plane tickets to travel, and having enough money from my own pocket for housing wherever I go, is next to impossible given my current financial situation, however, if I can prove that I have established contact with someone in order to teach students English in their country free of charge and out of the goodness of my heart, I may be able to convince some of my closest family members to help me raise funds and/or donate to my cause, and as a good gesture, prove to them that these funds are strictly and only going towards plane tickets/rent/food/school supplies via my contact in one of these countries, and nothing else.
