I see you're using these words for a book. What I will say is ANY time I am reading gore, profanity, or violence my first thought tends to be "is this necessary to the story?"
If I read about some random guy using slurs, I'm expecting the author has something to prove. For example, maybe his derogatory language once made him friends, but when he meets the RIGHT friends his language became a hindrance.
