I just left one of the best and worst things in my life
Post Body

I have been going to ballet for the last year, going 6 days a week, 4-6 hours a day. I was looking to have a career in it. My family does not have money to throw around, so we originally figured out a work agreement with the director of the company so I and my sisters could go to class without having to pay tuition. Flash forward 2 months, and the director ripped off my dad who was the one covering the work agreement. The agreement they had was that my dad would do all the company's graphic design, printing, etc (we used to run a print shop so we have all the professional printers and stuff) and they would just pay for the cost of paper and ink. So they were getting professional graphic design work for free, which in itself was worth more than they were asking for tuition. Then the director decided to just not pay my dad for paper and ink like had been agreed. We had The Nutcracker happening at that time, so my dad just covered the costs, expecting she would pay him when it was all over, but she didn't. He ended up paying thousands of dollars out of pocket. Then, during the EIGHT shows we had, when she went out and thanked everyone who contributed to the production being able to happen, she never once mentioned him. When my dad confronted her on her failings with her side of the agreement, she ended the agreement but just put us on a scholarship. We realized that this was a huge favor, and offered to take up the work agreement, or something again, but she never even responded to those messages. This is a woman who NEVER fails to answer if you text. Flash forward again to the last few weeks, and we started to notice some odd things. other, less experienced/capable dancers as us getting given bigger roles in productions, and here's the big one, US GETTING TOLD NOT TO COME TO SOME CLASSES THAT WE HAD ALWAYS GONE TO. So I finally confronted her on it. I asked her what was with it all, and she said that there were other families who are not happy that we are not paying tuition. She then went on to say that the Arts Council who she answers to for her business (it's a non-profit) doesn't like our not having any kind of work agreement or anything. Remember how I said we offered many times? Yeah. Well, it ended up in a one-sided screaming match with her yelling at me and me just sitting there waiting for her to finish. We are done with that place. And ultimately I think it's for the better. We were clearly not wanted there, and if she didn't actually want a work agreement, then I refuse to continue working with her just to get shunted repeatedly for being poor.
