I was born extremely skinny, and I grew up being either praised or degraded for it... There was no in-between. This made my early life very difficult.
As soon as I hit 16, I started to gain weight, not severely, but enough to notice my stomach. My mom would constantly berate me for something I could barely control, I ate normally, I worked out, and I tried to keep myself looking fit and healthy yet my stomach never went away. I later had to learn myself at the age of 17 that it wasn't my fault, it was a social issue. I was physically healthy, and just because I had a stomach didn't mean I was not healthy.
I eventually met a group of girls at my school, they considered themselves extreme feminists, and I was supportive until I learned the truth... They didn't support most people
The Body Positivity movement is supposed to tell everyone their body is perfect the way it is, unless of course, you aren't a cis white woman, My major issue is you are able to be positive about your body unless you are trans, BIPOC, queer, or disabled. Men can't be positive, but we allow those with unrealistic, unhealthy bodies to be proud, why is that? we allow someone who starves to be positive, but not someone who happens to be in a wheelchair to be positive about the fact they have a little fat on their body.
Feminism is not about belittling anyone, it is about everyone being equal, And that is not what is happening at all.
Why can one person be proud of themselves, but not another person? Example: "I got out of bed today" that's a good thing but so is "I ate lunch" or even something as little as "I brushed my teeth"
All that is happening is we're letting the majority win, we are allowing them to have power over us because we are too busy fighting each other.
If you read this whole thing, just know your body is valid, you are valid, you are loved, and you are human.
