A place for scenic painters?

Post Body

Hi everyone! So, i just recently graduated from college with my BA, and I'm starting that great time of getting my foot in the door.

But I'm getting a little concerned, mainly because I'm worried that my line of work doesn't technically exist....

I'm a scenic painter. I do have a bit of properties experience as well, but I love doing and want to do scenic painting for a living. I have a summer stock job lined up starting in May (yay), but I'm worried that's all I'm ever going to get-- summer stock. Right now I'm volunteering 15 hours a week at my local community theatre, but I don't want to be a volunteer forever.

I guess what I'm wondering is: do theatre companies have a set scenic painter in their staff? Is this even a position I can get a job in? Or is it usually lumped together with props/ set stuff?
