So, my girlfriend's parent's home computer runs Windows 7.
They told me they just installed an audio card that the computer didn't recognize. I don't know what audio card it is, and when I asked the various members of her family, they all shrugged. Anyways, I checked the BIOS, enabled audio output (changing it from Auto), and the computer started to recognize the sound card.
The new problem is that when I click the Realtek Audio Manger in the Star Menu Tray, the levels appear to be pumping whenever a sound source like iTunes plays, but for some reason no sound comes out of the speaker. We tried both the speaker jack in the back, as well as the audio output jacks in the front of the computer, and no sound is coming out. When listening through the speakers, there isn't even any speaker noise, so I know that there's no signal being received by the speakers.
I'm an audio guy that usually works on Macs, so this is new to me, and I don't know what information is needed to solve the problem.
I'll answer any questions if you want more info!
