I'm using an LG HDTV. I just bought two external speakers, and I have zero idea what to do here. The two speakers have been connected to each other (I think) and the speakers are plugged in and turned on... This is the problem that is making my brain hurt:
I use my TV as my PC monitor, and to play video games. My TV connects to both my PC and video game consoles via HDMI cable. My speakers do not have an HDMI port, they came with two RCA cables - one is dual RCA on both ends, the other is RCA with a headphone jack end (3.5 mm I think?)
I dont know what to do. My guess is that connecting the TV to the ext. speakers via dual RCA is going to produce better sound quality than the headphone jack (please do correct me if that's wrong as I'm only guessing here). Frankly, I dont even know if there is a headphone port on my TV or where it is/would be, and I've looked. On the active speaker, there are a total of 2 white ports and 2 red ports - two for PC and two for Aux.... This is confusing to me. While yes, I am using a PC, I'm pretty sure its referring to a PC monitor and that I'm not actually supposed to plug the speakers directly into the PC itself - I feel like that's wrong. I want to be able to seamlessly switch from HDMI 1 and HDMI 2 on my TV without having to mess around with cords.
So, I used the dual RCA cable and put the red and white cables into the "aux" port on the speakers, and the other two into the ports on my TV (the two ports with "L" and "R" above them).... I go to my TVs sound settings and my TV isnt listing any external speakers as an option. I dont know if it's possible to be on an HDMI "input" on my TV and still use speakers connected to RCA ports. Could very easily be wrong. The bottom line is, I've dreaded setting these up long before I got them and I dont know how to proceed. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you. Please be patient, this stuff isnt my strong suit.
