I plugged in am MP3-player that I haven't used in a long time (Meizu Mini 4GB) using the Meizu bundled cable. The player "charged up" for a minute or so and then claimed it was fully charged, so I removed it (it wasn't turned on when charging, so I ignored the safely remove thingie). Then I realized I can't move the mouse pointer; my keyboard is a Filco USB keyboard with a PS2 adapter, connected to my PS2 port, and it kept on working.
I tried scanning for hardware changes, plugging two different USB mice into all the various front and back ports, and still nothing. My device manager tells me I have 4 Intel USB controllers and 6 things called "hubs", whatever that is, along with an "unknown device" which stays there even after removing all external USB devices. It may be the card reader on the front of my Enermax case, but I'm not sure since I never used that thing anyway and don't know whether it works via USB.
Before rebooting once, the USB mice would glow red when connected even though they didn't work, now after rebooting they aren't even glowing anymore when I reach the Vista login screen. Is it possible I fried all the USB on my PC when I connected the MP3-player, somehow?
So I am sitting here now, typing away on my shitty laptop and staring at the Vista login screen where I can't do jack shit with just my keyboard. I'm extremely frustrated and have some urgent work to deliver tomorrow.
EDIT: Came back home two hours later and unplugged the power supply cable from my PC, then plugged it in again after 20 seconds. Booted into safe mode (PS2 keyboard worked) where USB mouse worked flawlessly. Rebooted normally and now it all seems to work again, at least the mouse on a certain port.
