2 tb Samsung 980 Pro connected to a Z490 Alienware 07W25T Motherboard - Says NVME is Gen. 3 x4, manual says should be 4.0 - Help?

Explaining the title being the whole issue is another post, but yes that is the problem. I'll elaborate though.

Alienware R12

Bought Samsung 980 Pro that I replaced the 256 gb preinstalled. Tested with samsung magician and results comeback as, Recommended to connect PCIe Gen 4.0 for optimal speed. Interface PCIe Gen. 3 x 4

Bought a Amcomp PCIe 4.0 adapter and installed the samsung from motherboard to adapter and rebooted. Still same results.

Could this be a NVME ssd problem or a computer limit problem. Or just something else
