I recently picked up an old macbook air that hast a very strange issue: immediately upon booting up, the fan will begin running extremely loudly, and very little will make the cpu load spike to 100%. however, after using the computer for about an hour and a half, the fan and cpu will both begin to perform as expected. unfortunately, I haven't been able to tell what the trigger for this is exactly, and I'm not sure the exact time frame. I've run scans for viruses, and the storage has over 30gb free. while fixing the issue would be ideal, it would also work to figure out what the trigger is, so that I can force the computer into working properly.
