Laptop brightness is at 0 despite having meter full when unplugged

so as the title said, its not like its a black screen. If I take a flashlight at my screen while its unplugged, I can see things. Everything works, but the brightness meter is full when i try to adjust it with the menu or with the function hotkeys.
Ive tried looking in my power plans and nothing seems to mention anything related to it. What do i do?
