Are there any good tools or strategies for monitoring and diagnosing hangs of Explorer.exe? Application event log has been too vague if not useless. I've removed any shell customizations, ran sfc, wim, and dism cleanups, and experienced the same issue in the msconfig clean bootup mode. I do often use VMware Workstation, but have otherwise disabled overlays, superfluous devices and drivers, etc.
Edit: Symptoms involve opened folder windows are no longer focusable, and taskbar/start button/system tray are visible but not clickable. Taskbar and Win # from the row not responding, but Alt Tab works. Explorer never turns white with "Not responding" which is unusual. I have to open task manager, kill Explorer.exe, and launch it from the built-in Run dialog. Issue seems most prevalent overnight, and can't be replicated on demand. High performance power profile is used.
