People of Reddit, I would really need your help.
I use a mid 2012 MacBook Pro (15 inch retina) for school, I recently had liquid fall on it and the screen died. I was able to clean the LVDS connector with a little bit of rubbing alcohol and a clean nylon brush, the screen now works but the back lights is still dead, I brought it to a repair shop and they said that the LVDS connector needs to be replaced and would cost $357 CAD in addition to replacing the screen because the display cable was damaged for $879 CAD. When i asked if they could just replace the display cable they said it wasn’t possible, but when I did some research I found that you could buy the proper cable, without the screen, (for a fraction of the price). I want to know if I’m being ripped off or if they are other alternatives, buying a new computer is out of the question as I don’t have anywhere near the amount of money to buy a new one (even to buy a windows computer or a used MacBook). I live in the province of Ontario in Canada so if there is a shop that I could possibly mail it to or drop it of that could fix it for cheaper please let me know. I really need this to be fixed soon as I have exams coming up and really need my notes back ASAP.
