Hey everyone, I would love some help if possible!!
So it all started with my monitors just randomly shutting off during video game play. Sometimes I could go for weeks with zero issues and other days it will do it every 5 min. You could still hear the music, but zero video feed. Doesnt matter the game either. Whether its graphic intensive or not. It never shut off though if I was just website browsing or streaming movies/shows. This went on for about 6 months.
Motherboard - evga x99 classified (3.0 board) Power supply- 850 watt Memory- ddr4 16 gigs Video card- evga gtx 980 4 gig series Processor - i7 6 core 3.3 ghz lag 2022-v3
Then all of a sudden, one day, my computer shut off and didnt turn back on. So I figured, okay! It's my power supply. Got a new power supply. Nope. Switched out my graphics card to a 980 ti version. It wouldnt turn on with the video card in the 1st slot, so I put it in the 4th, which my motherboard says it's also a x16/8 slot. It just didnt seat properly, like you could push down but it didnt "click". It did when I got it in the 4th slot. Got the computer up and running. Started getting cmos errors so I flashed the bios and then updated it. Still got cmos error... but it would boot into windows so I ignored it. Ran a video on youtube and everything seemed okay. So, I pulled up diablo and that's when my computer shut off and I smelled something burning. I quickly hit my surge protector and shut off the system.
After letting the case air out, i determined the "refurbished" video card was the problem child and blew up. My question is though... could my motherboard cause the video card to short and then blow up? Or is it JUST the video card? I'd hate to put another video card in the system to have that blow up too. Thanks for any suggestions!
