Games crashing after upgrading to an 2080 SUPER. Software or Hardware?(HOPEfully not)

Post Body

So before i cry and say it's a defective GPU, the main issue i have after upgrading to the 2080 Super Gaming X Trio from an Radeon R9 290x is the frequency of crashing. i wouldn't say it's severe like BSoD crashing or my system shutting off completely, but rather it just freezes/crashes and im still able to tab out and end the window for not responding. Worst case senario, I have to force reboot. I'm also not getting any obvious signs like Artifacting. The issue primarily happens when i'm gaming. Games like:

  • GTAV
  • Wolfenstein: New Blood
  • Metro: Last Light
  • Rainbow Six Siege
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (Beta)

Whilst i'm getting the expected performance numbers i should be getting(1080p, 144Hz) on their maxed out settings. i can only play for an hour or two before my game unexpectedly crashes. V-sync only prolongs it for another hour or three at best and I've already tried rolling back the drivers to no avail(though, ill probably do it again if third time's the charm.) Turning down the graphical settings also only prolongs it. I've also turned down the OC settings on my RAM in case that's caused some instability, as well as, tinkered around with the virtual memory but that hasn't helped neither.

Other related info include the fact that i pretty much upgraded everything else (CPU, MoBo, Ram, SSD) as well as migrated the OS to the SSD weeks prior to the GPU, but since i forget/no longer have access to that Microsoft account, i'm essentially stuck with having to reactivate my Windows licence. Overheating shouldn't be an issue since i have two 200mm fans as intake and an AIO for the CPU with no signs of thermal throttling. my best guess is it's either software wise or the Windows OS specifically. otherwise, using my gpu for casual browsing on the internet works just fine. Any input will be of help thanks.

if all else fails, i believe i've already overextended on the store retailer's warranty but i have the product registered onto MSI's website, so hopefully if it comes down to an RMA that it goes through.

System specs:
- AMD Ryzen 7 3700x
- MSI MPG X570 Gaming Pro Carbon Wifi
- GSkill Trident Z RGB 16gb 2x8gb 3200Mhz CL16 F4-3200C16D-16GTZRX
- MSI RTX 2070 SUPER Gaming X Trio
- SAMSUNG 860 EVO
- 1tb HDD
- Seasonic M12II evo edition bronze 750W
