Android Device doesn't charge, just heats up when plugged in

Post Body

I have an Xperia XA2 - a couple weeks ago I went to put it on charge and... nothing happened. It didn't buzz to signify it was charging, the battery icon made no changes. Everything was plugged in properly.

Eventually the end of the cable started heating up, followed by the device. It never got uncomfortably warm, just warm. That's all that happened. I tried a number of different cables and plug socket configurations, and the only one that seems to work is a 1st party Sony cable that I borrowed from a friend.

I no longer have access to that cable and my phone is basically dead now. Does anybody have any idea what the cause of the problem might be and the best course of action?
