Any way to prevent certain program from seeing a USB device?

Hey r/TechSupport

I've done quite a bit of searching, so I'm guessing there isn't a way to achieve this. There are solutions to block all USB ports, or edit the name of USB devices in the registry. But maybe someone else has, by chance, done this in the past.

I'm essentially looking for a way to block Logitech Gaming Software (LGS) from seeing my Logitech gaming mouse, but allowing it to see my Logitech gaming keyboard.

The reason being that the wireless dongle for the mouse is partially broken - it doesn't make great connection with the USB port, so I disassembled the transceiver and added some shims to raise it up and make better contact. This works 80% of the time, but once or twice a day, the dongle will budge a little and lose connection. When it reconnects, LGS will reset my mouse back to default settings. I can easily just re-import the profiles as I have them saved, but it's an annoying problem. If LGS isn't running, the mouse just reconnects and keeps working without a problem.

But this particular keyboard I have requires the software to be running if I want to have custom RGB.

To sum it up, I'm hoping that if LGS doesn't see the mouse - maybe through software blocking - then it won't reset the settings.

If anyone knows how to achieve this or a different solution, I would really appreciate the help.

Cheers!

Some specs:

  • Mouse = Logitech G700s
  • Keyboard = Logitech G810
  • OS = Windows 10 64-Bit
  • CPU = Intel i7-5700HQ
  • MSI GE62 Motherboard
