Recovery data from a potentially damaged hard drive.

Hi everyone,

I have come into possession of a laptop that was dropped recently. After the drop, the laptop would no longer get boot to windows. I could not get anywhere with it for windows repair or recovery options. So, I popped out the drive and have been trying to extract data from it but I'm having a little trouble.

I have little SATA to USB thing that allows me to see the drive on my PC but it says I need to format it before I can do anything. As I want to try and recover some data, I'm not going to do that. I can see all the partitions on the disk manager. The drive did have windows installed but I only care about the data, not the windows partition. Is there a simple way to access the data without the format options? Again, I can access the drive in disk manager and in DISKPART. Any good tips to extract the data providing it's not all corrupt?
