Original build: Asus Sabertooth X58 Some 6-core intel hipster processor
Newer Build: Gigabyte MiniITX Mobo Intel 7th gen i3 that is compatible SSD 4-5 year old Nvidia card Once-cool now annoying acrylic all-clear case Two monitors, one vertical.
I have lived in this apartment building for two years plus, and had, while out of town, my earlier CPU / Mobo completely brick on me. It was in sleep mode (my bad, I'm going to start shutting down more), gone for 4-5 days, on return it cycles power on / fans light up, dead. Troubleshot everything, wasn't the PSU, it successfully runs a circuit with itself checked with a paperclip. Must be the mobo, because it doesn't even get to beep codes. Replacing it would be 250-350 because it's not in production and people like them? Frustrating, but ok. Buy cheap ITX newer gen processor ram to fit.
Fast forward four months of fully functional PC... it hard locks while I'm doing something on Eve Online. I twitch slightly, annoyed, but restart and get it back functioning. Does it again, and then gets stuck in boot cycle pre-POST. I begin to rage. I reseat everything, try without GFX card, get 5-beeps on POST.
CPU is RIP? I just bought this shit. I will attempt RMA.
Anyone had a similar situation? I'm using the downtime to forcibly unplug a bit.
I want to have some assurance I'm not rebuilding right into a power-surge fuckery from my apartment building or something. I worry something was incorrectly grounded out on the goofy acrylic case standoffs or similar. I'm a small business owner and can't afford throwing away parts, I just want to be able to dual-monitor some Eve, occasional Overwatch, and facebook and netflix a bit.
