I appear to be having an issue with all sorts of network communications being corrupted as they come down the pipe. It seems to happen somewhere between my router and my desktop; my mother's laptop is on the Wi-Fi on the same router, and she isn't getting any issues.
I have a strong feeling it's the driver, as my computer turned this image into this garbled mess.
Additionally, the issue manifests itself in other ways, like completely corrupting various text files as I browse the web (requiring a Ctrl-Shift-R Hard Refresh), preventing things like Windows Update from working (0x8024402f), and lots of lag in multiplayer games.
I have an ASRock H97M PRO4 Mobo, which (according to Device Manager) has an Intel Ethernet Connection I218-V. Driver version 12.15.22.6.
It seems to be a driver issue to me, since the latest driver seems to be 21.1, however Windows Update hasn't picked up on it, and I can't install it manually (looking for a specific PROSETDX.msi package it can't track down, causes install to fail).
EDIT: Someone on live chat suggested I try using a Linux distro to make sure my NIC isn't bad. Gonna try that out.
EDIT2: Well. The Mint live USB wasn't working out as well as I'd hoped. X wouldn't come up, which meant I had to fly by the console. Still, I ran through apt-get update
and apt-get upgrade
and it all went through without a hitch, which says to me it's not a bad hardware issue. It's a driver issue in Windows... and apparently I can't uninstall the old driver due to a lack of a specific PROSETDX.msi package...
EDIT3: Finally got the driver to update (via Windows' Update Driver button). Version's now 12.15.23.7, no real difference. Now out of ideas.
EDIT S: Fixed. When I wrote in with this issue, I was running the beta build of Windows. Build 14965. A reversion back to Build 14931 helped repair my network connection. I don't know if it was directly related, or it just put everything back in place by coincidence, but my downloaded images don't come out like half-drawn lemonade.
