Display dropping during games, HWMonitor says maximum GPU voltage in the MILLIONS.
Post Body

Hey guys,

GPU: XFX rx480 GTR 8gb

CPU: i5-6600k OC to 4.1GHz (through gameboost)

MOBO: MSI Krait Z170A Gaming 3x

PSU: EVGA 80 gold 750W

RAM: 16gb DDR4 stock timing (2400? I forget)

System: Windows 10

Last night I was playing Skyrim and had my display shut off which required a reset. This happened multiple times, more frequent with each restart. Eventually my light on my card turned red and it wouldn't display anything. So I changed the power cable to the GPU from my PSU and I haven't had any issues since.

Not the first time this has happened. Happened with my previous build with all different parts (new psu fixed it), and it happened a two weeks ago playing Fallout 4 with a newish mobo, CPU, and PSU with a gtx 770. Since then I've had no issues, playing Doom on Ultra with zero hitches.

I did some tests and found that my temp ranges are all appropriate, but here's something funny. This was after a two hour Gears 4 gaming session:

What I don't understand is why changing cables fixed the issue, and why my maximum voltage to my card over a million. Is this a software glitch? Or is my PSU giving power spikes to my GPU? Everything's plugged into a surge protector.

Anyone have any ideas on why this is happening and what to do to prevent it from happening again?
