It's been about a bit over a year and a half since I've built my PC. Right off the bat I had a faulty motherboard which had to be RMA'd, no big deal. A couple of months ago, I switched out some faulty RAM, which is kind of to be expected.
I've been using it all fine and well this whole time, but I've always been regularly getting BSODs when I'm using Windows (specifically, I use Windows 7 64-bit). It's been such a common occurrence that when it happens now, I just kind of go "oh, it blue screened again." without much thought any more. It's always been mostly SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION and MACHINE_CHECK_EXECPTION, which I haven't yet found a concrete solution for. This would happen if I Alt Tab out of a game, when I'm browsing the internet, or even if I went afk, I'd come back to the blue screen. It's also had it's share of regular freezing, which is solved by holding down the power button.
Recently, I installed Ubuntu 14.10 to a partition on the same hard drive. I've used it for about 2 weeks now, and I've yet to encounter any problems with it. I'm not sure what happens when Ubuntu crashes, but it hasn't happened to me yet.
It may be a bit late to ask this, since it's been such a long time, but does this sound like a problem specific to Windows? If possible, I'd like to be able to rid myself of blue screens, but I haven't had any luck with Googling the aforementioned errors.
Quick Specs:
- ASUS P8Z77-V LK Motherboard
- Corsair 600W PSU
- Intel i5 3570k
- Radeon 7950HD
- 8 GB RAM (2x4GB)
The two operating systems I'm using:
- Windows 7 64-bit SP1
- Ubuntu 14.10
