Need help, older games and Windows Live (steam game) problem.

Hey guys, let's start off with system specs:

Intel Core i7 2660
4GB Ram
Gigabyte HD 7950 WindForce 3 (3gb)
Windows 7 SP 1 64-bit.

So my problem is, when trying to run older games like Mortal Kombat Kollection, Lord of the Rings War of the Ring (Installation won't even work), and Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun, the game just minimizes itself. When I try to fullscreen them again they also just minimize. no audio, no video playing, nothing, just stuck in a minimized state. Things I have tried:

reinstalling Games for Windows Live (for mortal kombat kollection).

Running Steam as an admin.

compatibility mode for XP, 98 and 95 (tried them all)
