Macbook Pro battery issue

Post Body

Hey folks. I have a 2019 Macbook pro 13", 1.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5, currently running Sonoma 14.5. I have been having an issue with the battery for a few months now that I don't understand, and wondering if anyone here can shed any light on what this machine is doing.

I'll start by saying I at first assumed that this was simply an issue of battery age and had the battery replaced, so at present, it has a brand new battery in it. It didn't solve the problem, though, so now I'll tell you the rest.

The machine often does *something* inexplicable while closed and asleep that runs the battery down to zero, sometimes from a full charge. This was happening before I replaced the battery, and it continues to happen now, with a brand new battery. Example: Last night the machine was charged at 100%, connected to power. Before I went to bed I disconnected it from power and closed it, left it sitting on my desk. In any normal situation it should have retained all or most of that charge overnight while asleep. I got up this morning, and found that it had once again inexplicably drained itself to 0% and I had to connect to power to turn it on at all. I have no idea why or how this could be happening, especially given that the battery is brand new.

Any ideas?? Thanks
