After a recent update my pc started crashing randomly. At first it was just here and there but it progressively got worse over time. I tried uninstalling the recent updates but the uninstalls kept failing. I tried resetting my pc a few times, not being able to on the first couple attempts as my pc would crash in the middle of resetting. But after awhile I was finally able to reset it.
This helped for a while, I was able to play games and stream shows for a couple of days with no issues but my pc started crashing again. So again I went and uninstalled any recent updates and this time I was able to do so without any issue and I paused updates on my pc. But I still am getting crashes with the same stop code and failure.
I'm starting to come to grips with reality that my gpu is probably dying. My pc is getting older with very few upgrades over the years. I apologize in advance as I am not really tech/hardware savvy, I bought my pc prebuilt, but I could use some advice on how to proceed? I feel like I have done a decent amount of troubleshooting and I am about to the point where I feel like this will only be fixed if I buy a better graphics card.
Here are some of my pc specs:
System: Intel Core i5-8400 2.8GHz 6-Core | Intel Z370 Express Chipset | 8GB DDR4 | 120GB SSD | 1TB HDD | Genuine Windows 10 Home 64-bit
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB Video Card | 1x DVI | 1x HDMI | 1x DisplayPort
I have had this pc since 2018 and have only upgraded a couple of things. A few years back I got 4 sticks of some Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 8 GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM. A few years ago my PSU stopped working and I replaced it with the one below:
- Gamemax 1050W ATX 3.0 & PCIE 5.0 Power Supply, 80 Gold Certified, Addressable RGB Sync, Fully Modular ATX Gaming Power Supply, RGB-1050
I also added an SSD card a couple years ago:
- Samsung 970 EVO Plus SSD 2TB - M.2 NVMe Interface Internal Solid State Drive with V-Nand Technology (MZ-V7S2T0B/AM
I have been wanting to get a new PC as I know mine will have a hard time playing some of the big games coming out over the next couple of years, like GTA 6, but I can't really afford to get a whole new PC, but the way my pc is running currently it is basically unusable.
Would getting a new graphics card stop these crashes? Also, what graphics card should I get that is suitable with the rest of my pc specs? Or is there a chance that I will still have crashing issues even after changing graphics card? Would that mean other hardware would need to be updated as well? Again I apologize as I am not super knowledgeable with pc stuff, especially hardware. Any advice here would be super appreciated.
