Problem with PC and connection to a TV through HDMI cable

Post Body

So I moved my gaming PC to a friend's house from mine and tried connecting it to his TV with an HDMI cable like I normally do at home. It doesn't seem to be working though. We're wondering if it could be because my TV at home is a 4K and this one is only 1080p. So maybe the computer is trying to send a 4k signal to the TV that can't handle it? We tried multiple HDMI cords and can't seem to get any picture. Please help!
