My Ethernet speeds on my Windows 10 Desktop keep randomly getting capped at 100Mbps, even though I should have Gigabit speeds. I have done all basic troubleshooting steps, double-checked all connections, checked the cable, run Windows Network Troubleshooter, restarted my computer, run the troubleshooters on the Xfinity app, restarted the router, nothing indicates that there is any problem with my network except the fact that I am not getting my rated Gigabit speeds, and the Ethernet port lights on both the router and my computer blink orange to indicate a 100Mbps connection instead of blinking green for a Gigabit connection.
The first time I fixed this by switching where the cable was connected on the router, it was in the single orange marked 2.5Gbps port, but I moved it to a different port and then I had my gigabit speeds back. Then, my speed gets randomly capped again. After trying every possible reasonable solution, what fixed it is when I simply paused and unpaused the device’s Internet access on the xfinity app. That worked, until eventually it randomly gets capped again. What fixed it the last time is when I unassigned the device from my profile on the app. Now, after my speeds have gotten capped again, none of these previous solutions have worked.
The fact that messing with the functions on the xfinity app leads me to believe that the problem lies somewhere with the gateway or other xfinity services, and I have no idea what to try now. I chatted with an Xfinity agent, who after a while, assured me that updating to the newest generation of Xfi Gateway would solve the problem, at another $30 per month. Gee, thanks. This gateway is only a few years old (I thinks it’s the XB7 something, I can double check if needed), and is clearly capable of Gigabit speeds, I shouldn’t have to pay extra to get the speeds I should already be getting. I also have a B450 Tomahawk Max motherboard if that’s relevant. Any help is greatly appreciated, cause this is getting really annoying.
