Hi there,
My nephew's laptop has been acting very slow, and he asked me if I can do smth about it. It boots more than a minute, and it takes close to another minute from logging into the local account which doesn't require a password.
It's got an HDD on it and I thought of replacing it with SSD, which will save all the headaches. But before replacing it, I tried troubleshooting it, just to see if it'll help the performance.
I uninstalled apps that aren't used, disabled start-up apps, adjusted the system configuration, and it's still slow. I checked the hardware by HP's smth hardware troubleshooter, including the hardware tests on the bios, and everything was fine. No overheat or anything, I even tried to stress the CPU to see if there'll be signs of overheating, but there none.
HDD's active time is mostly 100%, including the CPU. It subsides after couple of minutes, but it tends to process too slow whenever I try to open apps or things.
So here's where I'm at. It's an Intel Celeron, I get it. But the fact that I tried reinstalling the window via reset (cleaned everything), which I was hoping to somehow improve the process performance, it did not. So now I'm thinking if it's even worth upgrading to SSD, because if it's the processor that's weak already, knowing the fact that it's a celeron, what else can I do? It's running on Windows 10 x64, so maybe try to downgrade it to x32, or go back to windows 7?
