Laid off and optimistic: What programming languages would increase my potential?
Post Body

Hello fellow tech writers!

I was unceremoniously released from my job on Monday morning. Corporate layoff, cutting the budget, yadda yadda. It happens.

Since I'm reentering the job market, I'm curious as to what you all think would be a or a few programming languages I might want to think about picking up. Should I even bother with it at all?

I've seen a few job postings that list JavaScript as a plus, but that's all I've seen so far. I'm familiar with XML and DITA, which I know aren't programming languages, but I'm curious about what else you guys know and see as a value-added skill.

My job history is short and has consisted so far of Word and FrameMaker creation and editing, CMS manipulation, and DITA/XML tagging and organization. I also have my MA in technical/professional writing. What else should I think about possibly picking up, if anything at all?

Thanks!
