Thai Milk Tea has black stuff in it (leaves?). Is this normal?

Post Body
I tried Thai Milk Tea for the first time from a local place and it had a lot of small black pieces in it. I assume it was tea leaves? I've never had Thai Milk Tea before, are the leaves normally left in? I liked the taste of the drink but the leaves irritated my throat
