Is contribution to Roth IRA based on earned income or taxable income?

If my self employed earned income is 19000, then my taxable income would be 5150 after standard deduction. If it's based my earned income, then I can contribute the maximum amount $6000, otherwise 5150. I just wanna know which is it is.
