Post Body

We recently found out through a collection letter in late 2016 that the IRS says we owe an Obamacare fine for 2016, which they withheld from my refund this year. I believe that my whole family had correct coverage that year, although with a 2 month gap when I changed jobs and was waiting for eligibility at the new job. I called the IRS and after being on hold 3 separate times for a total of 30 minutes, all they could tell me was to fill out a 1040x. Do I have to fill out the form in it’s entirety if all I’m challenging is the Obamacare fine? Or can I just fill out the identifying info, check the box that we all had coverage, and provide the correct information just about that?
