Sorry, one other question. In 2018, I was a full time student, alternating semesters between college in Indiana and an internship in Illinois. I had jobs in both IN and IL during that year (at separate times).
While I was at the internship, I was still paying rent on my apartment in Indiana (it would have been too much of a hassle to sublease), and was also living and paying rent on an apartment in Illinois. Would I be able to file as a partial resident for the time I was living in Illinois, even if my registered permanent address was in Indiana?
From what H&R Block projects, if it's as a full time resident of Indiana, I will owe more in state taxes to both Illinois and Indiana than I am receiving on my federal return.
