Would love some advice.
Divorced but was contacted by IRS for taxes due for 2022 tax year due to ex not withholding proper account. Amount came to about 25k. I met with IRS thinking I only needed to show my divorce decree but walked out with a 180 day bill to pay the amount in full. Yikes.
Can anyone help me brainstorm options? Is it too late to seek help from a tax attorney or service? Can my former divorce attorney help to assign some of the responsibility his way?
Iโm considering getting a personal loan or pull form savings as the penalties and fees are a lot more and Iโd rather not have the irs breathing down my back. I know I did wrong walking in there without representation but itโs already done. I signed nothing but the conversation was recorded and documented. Thoughts ?
