Dude the document you linked literally uses the word “expenses” 35 times. If no expense is incurred, there is nothing to deduct.

The reason I point out the repeated use of “expenses” is because the safe harbor is just a simplified way of calculating them. The IRS specifically states the deduction is available to “homeowners and renters”, and the continued use of “expenses” (not “deductions”) to me indicates this is not something I would feel is worth getting audited over. Exclusive use is already hard enough to establish but there is no way I would claim this without some tangible expense tied to it. But to each their own.
