I'm so confused how I ended up owing even more?
Post Body

I've been at the same job both years from start to finish. Last year I claimed 1 throughout and ended up owing federal $113 and MO state under $50. I didn't want to owe anything and changed my status to 0. Now all of a sudden I owe $883 in federal and $299 in state. I made maybe $1000 more this year ($38k) than last ($37k). I don't care that I get anything back but I can't afford to owe, how do I fix this? I live paycheck to paycheck and can't afford to pay that lump sum and I don't know what to do.

Other points of ponder, last year I believe that stupid tax credit stuff was there and this year I cashed out some crypto which left me at a $-260 loss. Single woman, child is 24 so I no longer claim her.
