Is it better to do taxes yourself or let someone else do it?

Post Body

I'm 19. I didn't do my taxes by myself last year. My parents paid a professional to do it for me. They say it is better to let someone do it for you so you'll get a more significant return. My return last year was about $300 but they said it was because I didn't work that much. My parents said I could file it myself this year because I have a simple return and can do it myself. Is there a big difference between filing by yourself or hiring someone else? Also, does it have to be a CPA? My Financial Lit professor told me to always hire a CPA when needing help for taxes and to not go somewhere like HR Block or Liberty Tax because they hire regular people who may not know a lot about taxes.
