So I’ve always been very into tattoos and art in general, and I’ve flirted with the thought of becoming a tattoo artists. The only thing is, i am not very good at drawing. I’ve always loved art. All forms ! Drawing, painting, etc. I’ve never been the best at free-hand drawing. But like I’ve said I’ve always appreciated art, even taken courses in high school and college. So I’m not new to art, just not the best at creating it. So I’m wondering if it’s possible to be a GOOD tattoo artist without the ability to draw at a high level ?

You need to learn how to draw. Obviously you can choose what styles to focus on, but seriously, you aren’t going to be a successful tattoo artist by having zero drawing ability and just ripping off other people’s art work. I have been simultaneously practicing my drawing and tattooing on fake skin/my own leg for the past year and I’m still not ready to work on another person honestly. I want to my work to be good, crisp, and clean before I do that- it is the responsible thing to do. There is not a quick and easy way to becoming a good tattoo artist, just because you are self teaching doesn’t mean you should be rushing this if you don’t have the skill set. It is an art form. And please get blood borne pathogen training and educate yourself about proper disinfection/cleaning procedures.

This is terrible advice, omg. If you want to be a tattoo artist, please take the time to learn drawing fundamentals and hone your craft for the love of god.
