Is this normal/good for a tattoo?

I'm shopping around for artists and found a portfolio online that I liked but I'm kind of concerned about the shading. Is this normal? Will it fade quickly?
I like the style its done in but I don't want to sink a lot of money into something if it will fade quickly.
