Do you think tattoo pain tolerance builds over time?

I was shocked to learn how painful tattoos are for me. Ppl told me they wouldn’t be so bad, but apparently I have a low pain tolerance and am a wimp with pain. I’ve tried numbing cream and spray and they def help, but not all artists are open to using them. I also heard that tattoos hurt less as the session goes on but for me it’s the exact opposite! They hurt more and more until the pain is excruciating. Also all my tattoos are full color which I heard hurts worse.

I just got the biggest tattoo I’ve gotten— it wraps around my upper thigh. It hurt so badly that I was shaking, gasping for hair, and squeezing the pillow on the bed. Does it get better?? I’m taking a break from tattoos bc that one really hurt like hell but I want more in the future.. some other parts I want to get tattoos are my back, shins, collarbone area & I heard those areas are so painful.
