I had this tattoo done more than 20 years ago as a naive and impulsive youngster (it’s on my upper arm). The guy seemed to be intoxicated on something, which I only recognised when he’d nearly finished and I saw his hand wasn’t steady 😮. I chose this out of a tattoo catalogue and the tattooist took barely any time doing it.
All my responsibility for not doing my due diligence (on the design or the tattooist).
Nowadays I would have planned and researched both a lot more - in fact I have a really good tattooist now who helped me design a large and personally meaningful tattoo that I adore.
Anyway, the little fellow is part of my history and I’d be reluctant to entirely cover him up for that reason. However, I’d like him touched up so he is actually red, and to individualise the piece. I like the cartoon styling & the cuteness but not so much the execution - and of course it has faded over time.
Ultimately I’m thinking I’d like a half sleeve with this as a key component, but that might be a gradual process.
Can anyone advise on whether it’s possible to improve the shaping (for instance the arm he’s resting his head on)?
One idea I’ve had is to add a similar style cartoon angel - either cuddling him or nearby with a finger over their lips (as in ‘shh, don’t wake him!’). But I’m not very creative so would be grateful for ideas from you folks, if you’re willing to share.
Once I have some general ideas I’ll chew it over further with my tattooist.
Thanks!
