How to tip for two sessions?

Hi Tattoo Reddit!

Not sure if this is the best place to post this, but I digress.

I have six tattoos already, but my next one is going to be considerably larger than all of my other ones. My artist was upfront that this was going to take two 3-4 hour sessions, which I’m fine with. They charge per hour, so I’d just pay them for their time after each session. My question is about tipping-I always tip, and I was planning on tipping on the total cost at the end of my second session. Now I’m wondering if I should tip after each session? I would hate my artist to think I’m not going to tip them at all if I don’t tip after the first session, but I’m not really sure what the etiquette is here.

TIA!
