How do you read your face cards and aces?

I struggle the most with facecards and aces.

I sometimes read face cards as individuals in the person's life. Even so, it's difficult to discern the difference between the suits and each face value.

For aces, I read somewhere that you should pull another card in order to clearly identify what the ace (some type of new beginning) is saying. For example, the ace of cups (emotion) and the three of pentacles (collaboration) tells me the something like person will make a new and meaningful friend.

What helps you? All thoughts are appreciated.
