What about the RWS makes it such a 'gold standard' for tarot readings?

It's a great deck for both beginners and experts alike and the literal blueprint for many other amazing decks. Why is that?

For me, I think it's because one can pull multiple inferences from the imagery easily, but how does that work? I think it's because most cards are so mysterious and cryptic, both reader and querent can't help but literally 'search' the cards for meaning. At times, it seems to work the opposite, where the imagery relates literally to it's position in the spread and the context of the reading, which gives the reading a lot of power.

While I have slightly less fondness for it, the Book of Thoth deck is also similarly great as both an entry level and expert level deck for kind of opposite reasons- each card is quite specific of it's meaning which makes it both good for beginners to read but also poses a challenge for expert readers when you get a card or spread that's difficult to interpret.

What are your thoughts on RWS? And other decks that are good for readers of all skill levels. What do you think are the qualities of a deck that gives them this infinitely reusable quality?
