Hey guys. I know today is a little deflating for all of you, but I wanted to come by and say congratulations.
Truth be told, I'm actually an Astros fan. I know, I know, we've had our differences in the past, what with our three straight postseasons of duking it out with each other. And while we're on the confession train, the only time I've actually seen the Rays play... was the Reid Detmers no-hitter game last year. But while I don't speak for all Astros fans, personally, you guys are my favorite team in the AL East. This is personal bias, as I always root for teams that have yet to win a World Series, even at the detriment of my own team.
I wouldn't call myself a fan per say, but I've always admired your team. You have this keen insight into developing and reshaping players and making them great talents, then building them up to go for the postseason basically every other year. We kind of have that too, but we also have plenty of monetary wiggle room for free agents and a crazy farm system to go with it, so what your team has done since you won your first pennant is infinitely more impressive.
Admittedly I didn't have you making the postseason this year, mainly because I'm hot on the Orioles right now. But absolutely no one was expecting what your team ended up accomplishing. I mean, we're the World Series champions, and we just lost a series to the Tigers - THE TIGERS. It's a shame you couldn't end up beating the record, as I feel all sports records are meant to be broken, but the trade-off might be even better. This incredible run, coupled with Arozarena going off in the WBC, has turned eyes toward the Rays. People are now paying attention and wanting to see what they do. And from an outsider's perspective, you're a team that really, really needed that. Everyone knows about your location woes, but I myself would not like it if the Rays moved out without really getting a fair shot. I still think you should move out of the Trop, but not out of the Tampa Bay area. Obviously I have no say in this, but that's still how I feel. The Rays can be something truly special, even in Florida (that's a Marlins dig btw), and I hope everything can work out, with a World Series victory as the cherry on top. I, for one, do not mind losing the ALCS to you (or the Mariners and Rangers because they need a World Series too - anyone else is out of the question).
Once again, congratulations on an incredible run! And good luck for the rest of the season.
